It's odd that you need to because sometimes (usually in the morning?) the chat marches politely up the screen with black space underneath and you have to scroll back *down* to pull it down and reset and read it. Why it should move at some times and hold steady (with the new text under the bar) I couldn't begin to guess. One or other of these two happens essentially constantly.

Category 2: No text appears forever then a whole page of it flashes up - like the text has been buffering or something and finally loaded all at once. Sometimes you scroll to read back and find chunks of text you didn't know were there but I have always attributed this to me not paying attention for ten minutes or so (practicing guitar instead). This is rare.

Category 3: The chat will not accept your line of text no matter how many times you put it in nor how angrily you type the keys.... Sometimes it takes it - sometimes not. Like a chat buffer that just gives up and dumps the buffer to waste and you have to wait until it clears until you can type again. This is common.

I don't know if any of that makes sense but hopefully it does and helps.
And last night - Category 4. You type something, it doesn't take, you type it again, it takes, the chat moves on then you scroll back and find out the chat had added the thing you originally typed into the chat stream at the original place. I should have taken a screen shot of that one as it would have actually shown something. I'll try to catch it if I think it is going to happen again.

Jason, I'm sorry but you have only addressed ONE of the TWO problems that appear. Yes, we are aware that the scrolling doesn't work. What I do is hit the period "." immediately after I type something to advance the scroll to see what I just typed. That will take care of the issue you have noticed. However, as I have said, and BD has said, and Dennis Hodges as said (and others, too, I suppose) is that many times no matter what you type and hit enter, it does not appear at all. I can press the "." key following this a dozen times and what I typed will still not appear.

Booth is aware of this, because he was on a few nights ago and acknowledged the issue.

Anyone know what happened in the Cubs 1st inning? I missed the top of 1.

What's happening here is that when Ed is typing his post and submitting it, the submission is being sent through the system and others can view it. However because of a scrolling issue, that submission on Ed (and other's end) is showing up underneath the submission bar. This is causing people to think that their text is not being sent to others, prompting Ed in this case to use a couple periods or characters to get it to show up.

If this occurs while typing, mouse over the text window and pull your scroll bar down. It will bring up your text that you just submitted. Now that we've got a use case, Matt should be able to get this fixed up.

    Default The Natives Are Restless

Well the chat is dropping lines like crazy right now! One member just made this suggestion: Maybe they should park themselves in here at night for about two hours and experience it and see what a pain in the *** it is.

The next suggestion was this one: Could they please put the old chat back in here until this chat dropping of so many typed messages can get resolved.

Members are leaving again...it's too frustrating.

OK - got some screen shots coming in for you, jason and matt. The file name is the time (mountain time) I took it. It's a little hard to show you exactly so people started writing the number of attempts to put in the text. Nothing is it went through the first time then a 2 if it was their second attempt. I don't think anybody had to go past 4. I'll send it to your name@jamply.com accounts

The number I was referring to is circled in this image. Larger numbers seem to correlate with worse text loss in the chat. I thought if I posted the image here as well other members could see if that is also true for them.

I'm working / checking this out now. The dropping message. We will deal with scroll once we have this fixed.

Basically, when you type a message, could you send me a note on JamPlay, or to my e-mail jeff@jamplay.com with the text of the message and time sent (include timezone). I need to see if these messages are getting through at all to the database, which would mean a display issue, or if they are just disappearing.

I'm not able to reliably make this happen, so it's very tough to troubleshoot.

Rolling back is REALLY not something we want to do as it would require all teachers to go back to using FMLE, so we are hoping we can resolve the worst issue in the next couple of days.

After this is done we will tackle the scrolling problems. Those are "annoying" but not just straight broken.

Also for the suggestions that ram is the issue, we haven't maxed out ram a single time so I don't think that can be the issue. But we will investigate to make sure.

In that screen shot from BD-cgull there is a time to look at if it's not too late.

What I find interesting there is that of the few shown, there are two pairs with matching time-stamps. Does that mean each was submitted at the same time to the second (possible, unlikely) or that the server let them sit for a second or so (possibly off getting coffee) and then did them both at once? If so, maybe it drops some in the batch sometimes?

I took two one minute apart to try and catch some of the dynamic flow.
