View Full Version : Metronome, or drum tracks?

I hate metronomes and they hate me.
Is there anything wrong with using a drum track to replace the boring, judgemental metronome?
I've just downloaded Drum Beats+ and its super simple.
I'm just wondering, because a lot of the lessons say to use a metronome, or are they just really pointing to any device that produces a steady beat?

My opinion is any device that produces a steady beat is fine, especially if it's more fun for you and may cause you to practice more often.

I agree with crosstour. Anything that gets you playing more is good.
I bought GuiterPro (used the JamPlay discount). In addition to all the other things it does, I used it to practice. I play over the JamPlay lesson files, which is harder than a metronome and is helping to make my playing cleaner. I also make my own "metronome type" backing tracks for warm ups, practicing scales and riffs.
But in the end it boils down to whatever gets you to the sound you want.

I use both. Sometimes it's easier to just set a metronome
but playing to a drum beat has been very helpful to me
and a lot more enjoyable musically.
