Default New and wanting to learn to solo in key

    Hi There,

I'm from Melbourne Australia, and have been playing guitar since I was 14. But never progressed very far, playing mainly chords and simple songs.
I was hoping someone might be able to suggest some lessons from JamPlay.com that I could use to improve my knowledge and skill in playing in Key.

I'm playing a Maton SRS 808c Acoustic Electric guitar, new Very happy with it, but wanting to develop so that I can jam with people.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Jamplay!

I would start with one of the beginner series with any instructor that works best for you in their approach. A "Key" simply means a scale the cord structure is written in. So to learn to improvise over any piece of music you will want to pay attention to learning some scale and scale patterns. Particularly starting out the Major and Minor penatonic scales a really good starting points and then expanding out into the full scale patterns.

Unless you're one of the lucky few with perfect pitch, some ear training would probably help, too.

    Yeah good point.

At the moment I'm working on:
    - Stamina building with pick work
    - and Learning finger picking through lessons and song learning.
I should probably add ear training to it
