    Default Favorite Lyrics

Although lyric writing has never been a strong suit of mine, I do find that specific lyrics can help me out in the department, or even inspire tunes of my own.

Personally, I tend to prefer somewhat darker of a lyric profile. Especially if it's something you have a think about for a little bit.

I've always been a huge Pink Floyd fan and to this day I think "Time" has one of the strongest lyrical passages I've ever heard.

When you're on the run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking.
Racing around, to come up behind you again.

    That just gets me.

Another one of my all time favorite lyrical passages is from BT's "Firewater"

    It could be called alright
If we're breathing in the water
We're all sinking in the flesh
We're all covered in the fire
    Do you ask yourself
    Where am I now?
    When I'm six feet down
    through the pre-shifted ground.
Does the vine we climb carry us?

What about you guys? What's your favorite lyrical passage?

Pros: you can put them in a 2 X 4 and sound like zakk wylde
Cons: you can put them in a 2 X 4 and sound like zakk wylde

Another great thread...I'm old enough to remember when those Pink Floyd songs came out, but didn't know what the lyrics were...mine's gotta be Supertramp's "Give a Little Bit" line that goes: "See the man with the lonely eyes, oh take his hand, you be surprised" ... those words meant a ton to me at the time, like take a chance on reaching out to a stranger, you'll discover a gold mine. Thx Jason

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye. Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess, Boy you've been a naughty girl you let your knickers down...
    Sitting in an English garden
    Waiting for the sun
If the sun don't come you get a tan
From standing in the English rain

All of "Don't Carry it All" by the Decemberists but especially this part:

Let every vessel pitching hard to starboard
Lay its head on summer's freckled knees.

    And nobody, nobody knows
Let the yoke fall from our shoulders
Don’t carry it all, don’t carry it all

I've always loved this classic line from "Sister Suffragette" out of "Mary Poppins".

    Though we adore men individually
We all agree that as group
    They're rather stupid.

I also want to have "Roy Rogers" from the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album played at my funeral. It contains one of my favourite lines.

Oh, I'd rather have ham in my sandwich than cheese,
But complaining won't do any good...
